Common issues while filming a wedding

filming a wedding

The skill of capturing a wedding on film is known as wedding cinematography. The ceremony is not the only part of a wedding that may benefit from wedding cinematography; the reception and any other events that occur before or after the ceremony can also benefit from this kind of filming. Lighting, camera angles, and editing are critical components of good wedding cinematography.

If you’re a competent wedding videographer, you don’t need the greatest camera or equipment to be a great one. A videographer his/herself makes all the difference. Shooting a wedding video may be a very stressful experience. Here are a few pointers by Olivia Corin Films to help you obtain the best photos possible.

·        Inappropriate lighting

Poor lighting can destroy the quality of a wedding film. Small churches with limited natural light may be difficult for videographers. Using a video light during the cake cutting and the first dance is advised.

A video light on the pair during the wedding may bother them and the guests. Only do this if the ritual can’t continue without illumination. Try to utilize your equipment without extra illumination during ceremonies. Forget about zoom lenses and utilize the widest, quickest prime lens. The camera’s ability to take a nice picture at high ISO can rescue the day.

·        Backlighting

In certain cases, a videographer’s favorite spot to capture the ceremony is in front of a brilliantly lighted window. This may cause the camera to darken the bride and groom. Point the camera someplace without backlighting to address this and then lock the exposure. In this way, the bride and groom are appropriately exposed, but the windows behind them are overexposed, yet nobody cares.

·        Capturing from far away

Because of the location and standing constraints, a videographer can be far from the bride and groom. In this situation, you may need a long lens and acoustics. Wireless microphones work well when you’re far from the bride and groom to capture their sounds. In most cases, finding decent audio may be tough.

·        Noise

This isn’t always clear, so be careful. The finest audio comes from a microphone close to the speaker. As a backup, it is good to utilize a tabletop audio recorder.

·        Outdoor weddings

Outdoor weddings might have acoustic issues since there are no barriers to reflecting sound. Getting near or utilizing a wireless microphone on the groom’s lapel is excellent. Unless it rains suddenly, filming shouldn’t be an issue. Always carry an umbrella to protect your equipment from the rain.
